WHY ADHARA?
After a long hard day of harvesting olives, Venishree and Juergen love nothing better than to sit on the terrace, breathe in their breath-taking vista (an eye-cocktail of mountains, vineyards and groves) and express gratitude for the people in their lives and to nature that always gifts them so selflessly.
In April 2018, they sat out much much later than planned as they were still debating the name for their brand and that evening the stars came out in all their glory. Juergen remembered this star that always shone at its brightest during the olive harvest time and got out his App to check in which constellation this star was. It turned out to be SIRIUS which houses ADHARA. And so, began the story of ADHARA…!
The name takes inspiration from the binary star Adhara, one of the brightest stars visible during the time of our harvest. Adhara can be seen in both the Southern and Northern hemispheres representing Venishree and Juergen’s places of birth; their relationship being a union of different continents, cultures and languages.
The little Springbok, a truly South African national emblem represents the South African origin of ADHARA PREMIUM EVOO, a proudly South African product. There are wild naughty springboks who visit the farm to take shade in the olive groves and who, in early spring, sneakily indulge in some of the buds on the vines.

Adhara, in the Arabic language is interpreted as ‘The Virgins’. Both Venishree and Juergen moved from successful corporate careers in Europe on to a pursuit of new passions – producing extra virgin olive oil, and farming in general, is truly virgin territory for both. They call themselves ACCIDENTAL FARMERS.

- We farm with the land not against the land. This is to improve the organic carbon content to sustain the soil's life and increase fertility.
- We strive to regenerate the soil biology so that we do not have the need for chemical fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides and fungicides.
- We aim to bring back the biology into the soil – it is about harmony and balance.
We have already started seeing the benefit of this farming method..it is a long journey but definitely worth it.
